- The Climate - The climate is a huge factor here in Panama, and it's a great reason to move here. The climate in Panama is tropical, and most of the country has two seasons: dry and rainy. It is hot all year round but not as hot as in some other places in nearby countries. In general, it is in the mid-80s to low 90s, in the City and beaches area, and the 70s in the mountain towns. Some places are cooler, and others are warmer, depending on their elevation.
- Economic Opportunities for Those Not Retired - Although retiring to Panama is certainly popular, a considerable number of expats who come to Panama are those who are still in the workforce or entrepreneurs. There are many opportunities for economic growth in Panama. In fact, those of us who have lived in Panama for many years have already witnessed much of the economic growth.
- Simple Visa and Residency Options - Panama offers several visa options for expatriates who meet the requirements. The most popular is the Pensionado Visa, a permanent residency for those with a lifetime pension of at least $1,000 per month ($1,250 for couples), along with a clean criminal record and proof of pension-processing takes 4 to 6 months. Another option is the Friendly Nations Visa, available to citizens of 50 designated countries, which leads to permanent residency in just over two years. Applicants can qualify by securing a Panamanian job paying over $1,000/month, investing $200,000 in a term deposit, or purchasing real estate worth at least $200,000.
- Lower Cost of Living - The cost of living in Panama is generally much lower than that in the US, Canada, or most of Western Europe. Lower costs are found in almost every area. Locally produced goods, including high-quality fruits, vegetables, and seafood, as well as most meats and dairy products, are much less expensive than those found in either the US or Canada. Generally speaking, the amount to be spent is roughly a third to a half of equivalent purchases in either the US or Canada. Imported goods and those perceived as "luxury" items are priced more in line with what the expat is used to spending, and so the cost of these items is similar to their home country - primarily as high as they are due to the shipping costs from North America.
- Lower Crime Rate - The crime rate in Panama is lower than that in other countries in the region, and lower than most places in North America. The benefits of a lower general crime rate reverberate through an expat's decision to migrate and settle in Panama. All relocation plans will face adjustment challenges as they incorporate new cultures, new traditions, and new societies. However, an expat living in comparatively safe neighborhoods can go far with the knowledge that the property, once secured, will provide a great location to live and a great price for the long term.
Arrival Day - Thursday
Day 1 - Friday
Tour Begins in Panama City. The group will meet for breakfast in the hotel and discuss the week ahead. You will receive a welcome bag and discuss our week's itinerary.
We will explore life in Panama City with its modern comforts and Latin American charm, making it a top spot for expats. Housing ranges from luxury high-rises in Punta Pacifica and Costa del Este to more affordable options in El Cangrejo and San Francisco. Each neighborhood has its own vibe. Casco Viejo is historic and artsy, while Obarrio and Marbella are more business-focused. The expat community is active and growing, with English widely spoken, good healthcare, international schools, and plenty of social events. Many Expats enjoy the city's energy, warm climate, and access to beaches and mountains. In the evening, we will have dinner at a fun Panamanian-style restaurant.
Day 2 Saturday - Coronado and Chitré.
We will visit the expat communities of Coronado and Gorgona and meet with expats and property management personnel. We will see various housing styles and observe the many shopping plazas, restaurants, and activities available to expats in this area. Enjoy lunch with local expats, then down to Chitré on the Azuero Peninsula, have a great dinner, and stay the night.
Day 3 Sunday - Chitre, Las Tablas, Pedasí
Today, we travel through the Azuero Peninsula with stops in Chitre, Las Tablas, Pedasi, and a fun cultural stop for a taste of the Panamanian lifestyle. In Pedasi, we meet with local expats and experts in the area, see the beach and town square, eat at the popular local restaurants, and stay the night.
Day 4 - Monday - Beach Afternoon at Playa Las Lajas
After breakfast, we leave our hotel and drive toward the western province of Chiriquí. We will arrive at the Show Pony Resort at Playa Las Lajas in mid-afternoon. Before arriving, we will stop in Santiago for lunch and see a large shopping plaza to investigate products/prices for groceries, pharmacies, etc. We are halfway through our trip, so this day will be some rest and relaxation once we arrive at Show Pony. The team will also be around to discuss any questions you have up until this point.

We will introduce you to the best regions for expats to live, work, and thrive, learn about Panama's culture, and meet the experts who will make it happen. We look at housing rental options, throughout the you, and discuss the real estate market and printing in Panama for a later date when you may be ready to buy. We meet expats who already live in Panama throughout the tour, so you can get their insight on the move to Panama, and how it was for them.

The Tour is All-Inclusive except for your international flight(s) to Panama City, meals on arrival day, alcoholic beverages, appetizers, desserts, snacks, souvenirs, and other personal shopping.

Day 5-Tuesday - Boquete
We'll get up early and travel through David, discussing the Big Box Shopping options. Then we continue onto Boquete to visit the Tuesday Market and meet many local expats. We will have lunch, followed by exploring some of Boquete and the area. Then we will see the gated community of Valle Escondido and a mid-range rental in Boquete. We will end the afternoon around 3 p.m. You will have time to explore more of Boquete walking around from your downtown hotel before a great dinner at one of Boquete's finest restaurants.
DAY 6 - Wednesday - Boquete and near areas
After breakfast in Boquete, we will have a meeting to hear from immigration lawyers and health insurance experts and discuss banking, moving logistics, purchasing a car, and other expat-related topics. We will have lunch together, drive some areas around Boquete neighborhoods, and get you back to the hotel early enough for you to do some exploring yourself.-final Dinner in Boquete with more expat guests.
Departure Day
Thursday morning, we will get a quick breakfast and drive you to David to catch your flight to Panama City. The tour ends at this point.
For travel booking information, your David to Panama City flight will arrive in Panama City at about 11:00 am At Tocumen International Airport. You can book your connecting flight from there, recommended after 1:30 pm to give you ample time.
This 7-night, 6-day tour begins on Thursday evening with your Panama City Hotel stay and ends when we return you to Panama City the following Thursday morning. We suggest you plan your trip to arrive in Panama City on the Thursday before your tour begins and plan your return flight on the following Thursday afternoon.

Let us know when booking the tour in the notes section during check out if you wish to add on the Optional Panama City Tourist Day! It will be invoiced to you a couple weeks before the tour, as we coordinate with the other guests coming.

OPTIONAL TRIP to VOLCAN - We can arrange a full day from Boquete to Vocan. This is a smaller, quieter, more rural community on the other side of Volcan Baru. It is a two-hour drive to get there, but it is worth it if you are looking for a more laid-back, rural setting with some inexpensive options for rentals and real estate. Instead of flying back to Panama City from David with the group, we will book that flight for you based on your needs. If you choose this optional day, please discuss it with us so we can coordinate it with you. We can recommend hotel accommodations in Boquete or Bocas del Toro for your additional nights' stay.
OPTIONAL DAY(s) in Bocas del Toro
If you choose this day, we will book a flight for you out of Bocas on Friday morning (or later) to Return to Panama City.
